'Beast' mentoring young 'Beast'

Cape Town - Meet Mpumelelo ‘Beast’ Xego, a talented youngster from the Eastern Cape.

Xego has had a difficult start to his young life after his father tragically died in a car accident when he was only nine months old. His mother Nonhlanhla is currently unemployed.

Mpumelelo has two brothers and he currently lives with his uncle.

He is in Grade 6 at Durban Prep where he has been playing Under-13A rugby side since 2014 and has represented DPHS Under-13A in 2014 and 2015, KZN Under-12 Craven Week in 2014 and KZN Under-13 at the 2015 Craven Week.

Another ‘Beast’, Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira has taken Mpumelelo under his wing and is mentoring him as he grows as a man and as a rugby player. Through his own apparel sponsors ASICS, Mtawarira has arranged for Mpumelelo to be kitted out with gear in order to give him every chance of aspiring to reach the heights of his own career to eventually represent the Sharks - and the Springboks.

We wish Mpumelelo everything of the best and we hope that we hear chants of ‘Beeeaaaasssstttt’ in stadiums around the world for many years to come...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
