Pretorius came off in the Bulls sensational 51-34 win over the Cheetahs on Friday night but will not face the Brumbies this weekend as a precaution.
Team doctor Org Strauss told Supersport.com that Pretorius sustained a heavy blow to his thigh muscle, and that it bled internally inside the muscle, meaning that Pretorius would be rested this weekend to recover.
“He will definitely not be playing this weekend. I’m not sure at this stage how long he will be out but we will monitor the bleeding on his leg on a daily basis,” Dr Strauss told Supersport.com.
The news was also not good for Springbok Dewaldt Potgieter, who is close to recovering from his knee injury. According to Dr Strauss, Potgieter will start training with the team again this week.
“We will monitor his progress, but I double that we will consider him to play this weekend,” Dr Strauss added. The other ill and lame were all declared fit with Gary Botha and Fourie du Preez, who both left the field limping, over the worst part of the knocks they received.
Francois Hougaard, who pulled out of the Cheetahs clash less than 24 hours before the game, was declared fit and started training with the rest of the side yesterday afternoon.
The Brumbies arrive Tuesday in South Africa for their clash on Saturday.
