Lions bolster touring squad

Johannesburg - Lions director of coaching Dick Muir has introduced five players to his squad that were beaten 72-65 by the Chiefs at Coca-Cola Park on Friday night for the Lions' four-match Super 14 Australasian tour.

Old hands Dusty Noble (wing), centre Walter Venter and JC Janse van Rensburg (prop) join uncapped lock George Earl in the 26-man squad that departs for Australasia on Sunday.

Robert Kruger is a late replacement for loose forward Jonathan Mokuena, whose wife is expecting a child next week.

The Lions play the Hurricanes next Friday. They then return to Australia for matches against the Brumbies and Waratahs before again crossing the Tasman for a match against the Crusaders.

Kevin Buys, Tonderai Chavanga, Todd Clever, Jacques Coetzee, George Earl, Charles Emslie, Burton Francis, Hannes Franklin, Ross Geldenhuys, Cobus Grobbelaar (captain), JV Jane van Rensburg, JP Joubert, Michael Killian, Doppies la Grange, Jacques Lombard, Derick Minnie, Wandile Mjekevu, Robert Kruger, Dusty Noble, Earl Rose, Carlos Spencer, Willem Stoltz, Franco van der Merwe, Heinke van der Merwe, Delon van Rensburg, Walter Venter.
