Pretoria - Top South African referee Mark Lawrence has passed a fitness test and will referee Saturday’s Super 14 match between the Bulls and Brumbies at Loftus Versfeld.

Lawrence pulled out of his commitments last weekend at the Stormers-Lions game after injuring himself in the gym that week, and had to undergo a fitness test to take charge to the game this week.

But a jovial Lawrence, speaking from his optometry practice in Standerton, said he was fit and ready for the game.

“I passed my fitness test so I’m ready and waiting for the game.”

“I’ve cut my hair and the beard is gone and I’ve dropped a few kilos, so it’s a new Mark Lawrence you will see on Saturday.”

Lawrence will also take charge next week of the important Six Nations match between Ireland and England.
