Johannesburg - Bulls centre JP Nel will miss Saturday’s Super 14 semi-final against the Crusaders in Pretoria after being found guilty of making a dangerous tackle on the Sharks fullback Stefan Terblanche during the weekend.
The Bulls beat the Sharks 27-26 in a Super 14 match in Durban.
Nel’s case was heard in Pretoria by SANZAR Judicial Officer Advocate Dekker Govender and was represented at the hearing by Gerrie Swart.
The Bulls player pleaded not guilty and the defence argued strongly that the tackle on Terblanche was not dangerous.
But, after viewing video footage, Govender ruled that the tackle from Nel, was indeed dangerous.
After taking into account the relevant mitigating circumstances, Nel was suspended for four weeks from all rugby up until and including the 13 June 2009.
Nel has the right to appeal the suspension.
