Douglas – Kabamba Floors still has the hunger for Super14 rugby.

And if his performance for the Free State in a friendly match against Griquas on Saturday is used as a yardstick, he can still prove very useful to Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské.

Griquas won 22-18, but Floors regularly troubled their defence and looked sharp with the ball under his arm.

While his work-rate can improve, the experienced player is still a match-winner and he can add a lot of value as impact player for the Cheetahs.
Floors, 29, was influential in both the Cheetahs’ tries in the hot conditions.

For the first he shrugged off a defender to send hooker Hans Grobler away for the try.

In the second half he followed up Shagan Windvogel’s long kick, got the  ball from a ruck and dived over for the try himself to give the Free Staters an 18-17 lead.

However, it was Griquas who had the last say when No 8 Leon Karemaker touched down.

Griquas started dominating the scrums late in the game and also enjoyed superiority in the lineouts throughout.

Griquas coach Dawie Theron will be delighted with newcomers Danwel Erasmus (centre), Burger Schoeman (flanker) and Coenie van Wyk (flyhalf). Fullback Herman Pretorius also impressed.

Scorers:

Griquas 22 (17): Tries: Danwel Erasmus, Coenie van Wyk (2), Leon Karemaker. Conversion: Van Wyk.

Free State 18 (13): Tries: Hans Grobler, Kabamba Floors. Conversion: Louis Strydom. Penalties: Strydom (2).
