De Jong back for Stormers

2010-04-07 09:50

Auckland - Allister Coetzee, head coach of the Stormers, has announced his team to play the Blues in Auckland on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 07:30.

“We have made a couple of changes to this week’s side”, commented Coetzee.

“JD Moller comes in for the injured JC Kritzinger, who has not recovered sufficiently from the hamstring injury he picked up in the match against the Force last weekend. At lock, Adriaan Fondse will get his first start of the season. Fondse has played two Vodacom Cup games and is 100% fit. He may take some time to adapt to the pace of Super 14 rugby, but he is an experienced player and brings a specific role to our game which we feel we need at this time.”

Coetzee continued, “Dewaldt Duvenage will start at scrumhalf. He is the in form No 9 at the moment and is best suited for a side like the Blues. Juan De Jong has recovered from his injury and makes a welcome return to the side at centre. He was the first choice No 12 before his injury and is the obvious choice when fit. Tim Whitehead moves to the bench.”

One bit of good news at least! Mark my words, this young man is on of the upcomming greats for SA Rugby! His return is a huge up for the Stormers this weekend!

  • STORMER - 2010-04-07 10:19

I am so so so so chuffed to see Adriaan Fondse back in action - seriously.

  • Province Kop - 2010-04-07 10:27

Any idea when Mighty Joe is back??

  • Benk - 2010-04-07 10:29

  • WieePiee man - 2010-04-07 10:30

This is an important game for US(The STORMERS). It will be TOUGH, but the STORMERS will win it by between 5-7 points, including a bonus point. We want to show the Blue Bulls how to beat these guys. So we are taking them VERY SERIOUS!!

  • Romper stomper - 2010-04-07 10:35

  • WP Fan - 2010-04-07 10:36

Sireli after last weekend? The guy jogged the whole game. WHEN WILL HE CHARGE DOWN ON THE OPPOSITION WITH FULL PACE IF HE HAS ANY LEFT?

  • @mooi/molefe - 2010-04-07 10:42

De Jongh will have to work on his ball distribution before he can aspire to higher callings. He tends to try too much on his own and the opposition defense will work him out in no time as many promising players finds out in their 2nd Super 14 season. By passing a few more balls he'll be much more unpredictable and dangerous. He's also having problems linking up with his supporting runners once he's hit the gap. Promising but needs polishing.

  • Vic - 2010-04-07 10:50

Please explain to me why Pie-man Januarie even deserves a place on the bench? He hasn't played a good game since he won the game against the ABs in Dunedin for us. Sure, we're all greatful as that won us the Tri-nations, but he does not deserve to play until he loses 15kgs and starts making intelligent decisions again.

  • Not_a_chance - 2010-04-07 10:54

don't bluff, stormers are gonna get trampled on

  • @@mooi/Molefe - 2010-04-07 11:23

Granted, he is young still, and he makes the odd mistake and bad decision. But he still has by far the most potential of any centre that I have seen for quite a while. I just hpoe that The Stormers allow him to learn, instead of burning him out!

  • 8ste - 2010-04-07 11:29

  • The Dude - 2010-04-07 12:25

Good team... only problem... the Sleeping Giant should perform or we will again miss out due to Allistair's doubtful team selections...Its gona be tight...might end in a kicking game with Peter Grant in form with his goal kicking !!!

  • Fival - 2010-04-07 13:09

Good team but would rather have started with Anton Van Zyl and played Fondse from the bench. Juan deserves his place back in the team but should just work on his distribution. Sireli, aaaitog...

  • Tincup - 2010-04-07 13:40

  • Sniper - 2010-04-07 15:28

Stormers will carry on losing until Joe Pietersen is back at #15, & since he has been sidelined for the rest of the season, I have no option but to write my team off. Goes to show how dangerous it is to build your entire team around one guy! He inspired the whole team & is a fantastic player & I see him as the obvious choice for Bok RWC fullback. The 1st game they play without him ( against the Force nogal ) ------ they lose!!

  • red lorrie - 2010-04-07 17:06

Welcome back De Jonge! @mooi.He learns alot from J Fourie.Cant go wrong with a partner like that. J De Villiers is back early June.Wonder what will happen with De Jonge then?

  • Johan - 2010-04-07 17:24

  • Kurt - 2010-04-07 21:28

@Mr. Rugby Hy is nie wit nie ne. jou f@kk1n b03r.

  • motodi - 2010-04-08 08:12

@Red. good point boet. that's a valid question.

  • Laeveld Stormer - 2010-04-08 09:56

@ Sniper: Joe has only been sidelined for 4 weeks. 1 of them was a bye, the 2nd against the Force, the 3rd against the Blues, and if we're lucky he might be back for the Chiefs game but probably only for the Reds as AC would wan't to make sure his fine. I'm happy for Fondse he's a great player. I agree that Juan needs to pass more and put Fourie into space. He needs to start thinking like an inside centre. Happy that Duvenhage is also back to starting. Holding thumbs guys, we've got what it takes. Just light a fire under Sireli Slapendewooki's ass please!! We might have a chance. GO STORMERS!!
