Pretoria – Don’t let the big names of world football intimidate you. Stay focused and do your thing.”

That was the advice from Bulls flyhalf Morné Steyn to Bafana Bafana at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday.

Steyn and his team-mates all wore yellow Bafana shirts as Bulls captain Victor Matfield and the National Press Club also expressed their support for South Africa’s football team.

The Bulls departed for Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday night for their four-week tour.

“We want to show our support for Bafana. We are right behind South Africa. Let’s all get behind Bafana and make this an exceptional World Cup,” said Matfield.

Barend van Graan, chief executive of the Blue Bulls Company, said that the entire nation had supported the Springboks during the World Cup in 1995. He added that the nation had also supported the Bulls last year and “now it is Bafana’s time”.

“We will arrive in our Bafana jerseys in Perth tomorrow to show the world how proud we are of our team,” said Van Graan.

South African Football Association representative Victor Nosi handed Matfield a Bafana jersey that has been signed by all the players. Matfield immediately changed into it.

Nosi expressed his delight at the Bulls’ support.

“Fly the South African flag high wherever you go,” he said.

Yusuf Abramjee, chairman of the National Press Club, said that every South African had a responsibility to get behind Bafana and the 2010 World Cup.

“Let us support the national football team. The Bulls are the first rugby team to openly come out in support of Bafana. I hope other teams will do the same,” said Abramjee.

Excellent news! I guess a “double sided” flag will be acceptable at the Bull ring and Orlando stadium, one side Bulls the other side Bafana!

Well done Bulls. This is a truely great example that you guys are setting. I just could not help to wonder what motivated this. Could it be that you have to play the Semi- and Final in Soweto bearing in mind that the Loftus crowd is not really to to keen to have black people there. They have exactly been to friendly to us darkies.....LOL. I wonder how much true BB will dare it in Soweto. You will all have to wear Bafana Bafana jerseys on that day...LOL
Sam3/24/2010 10:50 AM

The super 14 is great becasue you can support 5 different south african teams. One out of the 5 is going to do well. In this case, as far as professionalism goes, and rugby playing savvy, the bulls are way ahead of the pack. This can be seen in their public support of Bafana when it counted the most. Well done bulls players AND bulls management. As for Bafana, well guys you have got two very big advantages in your favour. First of all you are playing at home - the only team to do so. Secondly, you have a major element of surprise as no-one really knows exactly how you are going to play. In the Confederations Cup you gave a really good account of yourselves and some were not expecting that at that early staget! So "Goforit" Bafana Bulls and all the true South Africans out there - or let me say - the vast majority of us supporters ..................

An absolute masterstroke of marketing skill by the Bulls management, plus a magnificent contribution to forging national reconciliation. In future years when we look back on how reconciliation was achieved, this act by the Bulls will be given as one of the major reasons. Possibly we will now really start seeing much more genuine interest by our black fellow Saffies at grass - roots level & so ensure our top - class non - political rugby future. Why are the Bulls so successful? -- because they have top - class management!!. I always have been, & always will be, a staunch Stormers supporter but it is still a pleasure to give credit where it is really due.Whats a bet Malema, for the 1st time, wont have a word to say!

U are truly the Number 1 team in the world... I hope all of us, Your Fans, carry the same Spirit wherever we are. Thank you Boyz for being such good role models....Bafana is now powered by the the BIG BLUE MACHINE...
@Liz3/24/2010 9:45 AM
You live in a dream world. How on earth can a bunch of losers that do not even deserve to be part of a soccer world cup can unite the nation? Van Graan is also living in a dream world is evident from his remark " ...the nation had also supported the Bulls last year" Which part of the nation? The small part around Pretoria? @tieho, you are right. It now over 15 years. What you fail to mention is that SA soccer is as bad as ever. However millions and millions of rand are spent on soccer stadiums to "buy" them a default place in the world cup tournament.

As a Bulls supporter I am so proud of them for doing this. I am in total agreement with what they've done to show their support. I know diddly about soccer but every Friday I wear my Bafana shirt and show my support for the SWC and the national team. The SWC is coming, like it or not, so please get behind and make it a success. What do we gain by dropping our lip and hoping it's a flop. C'mon people. Will get a grip will you???
martin3/24/2010 9:36 AM
@Mzeke, yes I'm with you on this. Win or loose, we stand together and make our country proud. Colour totally irrelevant.
Cary3/24/2010 9:28 AM
Awesome! South Africans supporting South Africans. Go Bafana. @ Will. Your comment is pathetic and a reason why we have some of the problems we do. You are no better than JM.
Didier3/24/2010 9:17 AM
AT LAST! No more negative comment here. Thank you Bulls for Support. GO BAFANA Do us proud and Guess what Last night i've dream that Bafana lifting the World cup Trophy in Final!
Well done3/24/2010 8:58 AM
Once again the boere of Bulls have done it. Guys i as an african, am very proud of the pioneering work of the Bulls. many of us Africans believe the English are less racist and expect the worst form of racism from Afrkaners, and that is so wrong a perception!!! Like ou President Zuma has said, the likelihood of Afrikaners leaving SA shores are less as compared to English and that's a fact. Afrikaners will die for this country, period. You see this commitment in the way they apply themselves for the cricket and rugby national teams, they will not spare themselves and say since the black majority are running this country, lets not play to our full potential. national pride is what they die for. But equally, Afrikaners must also realise and appreciate how the past nats govt helped them have economic empowerment by ensuring some form of AEE (Afrikaans Economic Empowerment) leaving black people totally out of the loop. Somewhere somehow, the whites of now benefit through shady companies and get a sizeable slice of the pie. But during apartheid, blacks got zilch and their opinion was never sought and they were never consulted in any way. Things are different now, guy to really be truthful, its a fraction of economic empowerment that we getting as compared to what you got and we never complained. just put up with this little effort and by your reneging efforts, you are making this ANC govt initiative to take longer than was the intention. You still refusing to promote blacks to higher positions in your companies, you withholding taxes, rates for the municipalities and the list goes on. Walk this mile with us and lets redress the past, but where we need your expertise, we will call upon you, already this has happened many times before. Us alone we will never get this country to the path we want and need at the speed we want, not meaning we cant. And you alone, you also cant. We need each other, lets walk side by side and help each other build this amazing and wonderful country together. Shall we?
Thando3/24/2010 8:49 AM
What a beautiful site...Go Bulle!!! It's about time that sensible South Africans show unity, take that Malema and all other racists who are trying to divide this great country.
Johann3/24/2010 8:48 AM
Ga Bafana!!! Well done Bulls :)
Hannetjie3/24/2010 8:27 AM
Well done Bulls!!! We all need to get behind our Soccer team, whether we are soccer supporters or not - they deserve all our support and maybe that is what they need to achive better results!!!! What's with all the negative comments - we are all South Africans !!!!!
Tieho3/24/2010 8:15 AM
And this is why i as a young black south african make my trips to every loftus game i can to support the bulls-these guys are not only proud afrikans folk heroes and world rugby legends-living mind you, but they are proud south africans. And most of yours comments are so not needed-The Bulls Company-nice touch. Amazing, as much as you have the constitutional right to, how of you will claim SA belongs to us all, but are still stuck in our history-is it not time we just move on. I am made to feel as out of place as possible every weekend at Loftus, but hey i still go, for the team not any one else. let us catch a wake up guys-its been over 15 years.
Ziggy3/24/2010 8:09 AM
Well done Bulls. To Bafana: I believe in you guys, if you give your whole hart you can make anything happen. This country needs a national victory of this magnitude more now than we did in '95. For the future of this country, we seriously need a victory! No presure...
Boknaai 3/24/2010 8:02 AM
Why still no Protea on the jersey, the promotions manager of SAFA must be fired or is our football emblem the SAFA logo. yeah right. It also shows that there is only a problem with emblems when it comes to rugby. Get your act together. Nicely done Bulls. GO BAFANA.
Nthlarhi3/24/2010 7:57 AM
Great patriotism. I know the majority of south africans of all races do support our sport teams equally and we mustn't be fooled by the handfull haters who appear on this site. They are just a drop in the ocean. I like what I see every Friday in the mall, in town, supermarkets etc. Politicians are just trying to divide us so that they can achieve what they would lose if we are united. Let's unite and ignore them. Thanks Bulls and good luck on your tour.
Liz3/24/2010 7:55 AM
Yes, lets all get together and unite as a nation!!!
Bert3/24/2010 7:49 AM
I agree...Let us ALL as South Africans support Bafana Bafana...
Bafana Supporter3/24/2010 7:44 AM
Well done Bulls! I sometimes watch Rugby, and have noticed that since Naas Botha, the Northern Transvaal, and now Bulls too, basically play a kicking game. They would do well in the Englisg premier league. I expected support from South Africa's first Afrikaans speaking soccer team.
G3/24/2010 7:35 AM
If only Bafana were able to play the way the Bulls do......
DRONKIE3/24/2010 7:30 AM
Wonder waa hulle die truie gekry het om hulle te fit? Op die oomblik is die Bulls die trent setters van SA rugby - julle ondersteuners moet seker trots is op julle.... Kom Cheethas, doen iets kwaai sodat ek ook kan brag....
Mzeke3/24/2010 7:28 AM
Go Bulls and Go Bafana....I love South Africa when its like this...Lets all stand together for our national pride
Unabashed Dutchman3/24/2010 7:04 AM
The Bulls are the smartest team ever. On and off the field. This will boost their status and prestige in the black community even further and add some luck to their overseas tour. Go Bulle and Bafana! Simply the best!
Over-and-out3/24/2010 6:53 AM
Awesome Bulls, that's the way to build unity in this country of ours!!! Kick some ass down under boys.
Bert3/24/2010 6:51 AM
Awesome! Go Bafana do your best! Go Bulls make it 4 out of 4!
Will3/24/2010 6:36 AM
Shame on the Bulls! Support for Bafana translates to support for Julius Malema!
Blitzi3/24/2010 6:18 AM
I thought that Bafana was in South America on a training camp, now they are at Loftus?? How do they managed to do that or did the bulls just had their own private gathering and used media to make it look as if they are with Bafana? Come on guys, lets be real...
Stompie van Amstel3/24/2010 1:41 AM
Eish, I hope they don´t start losing in Oz and Kiwiland, or people are going to blame that yellow jersey.
Martin3/23/2010 11:31 PM
Awesome!! Let's all support Bafana!! You go boys!!
Eliza3/23/2010 10:39 PM
Way to go, Bulls! Another 1st for the best team! Great to show support to Bafana Bafana
