Botes: Stormers will win S14

Christo Buchner

Johannesburg – Sharks loose forward Jacques Botes predicts that the Stormers will win this year’s Super 14.

The standout player from the Sharks’ disappointing campaign believes the Bulls, who are the champions and tournament favourites, have lost momentum.

Botes believes the Stormers will beat the Waratahs on Saturday, but is not so sure about the Bulls’ chances against the Crusaders.

“Traditionally the Crusaders play well against the Bulls and the fact that the game is not being played in Pretoria may be a problem for the Bulls,” Botes told the Sharks’ website.

“Who knows, maybe the Bulls will pull through by a point or two, but I believe it will be a closer game than the one in Cape Town. I believe the Stormers will be the form team when it comes to the final.

“The Bulls played superb rugby at the beginning of the tournament, but it’s as if they have lost momentum.

“If they can regain the form of the first few games, anything can happen.

“A final between the Bulls and Stormers would be huge. I believe it will come down to the same old story of which team is the hungriest for success.”

Even so, Botes believes the Stormers will be champions.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
