Botes: Stormers will win S14

2010-05-18 22:32

Christo Buchner

Johannesburg – Sharks loose forward Jacques Botes predicts that the Stormers will win this year’s Super 14.

The standout player from the Sharks’ disappointing campaign believes the Bulls, who are the champions and tournament favourites, have lost momentum.

Botes believes the Stormers will beat the Waratahs on Saturday, but is not so sure about the Bulls’ chances against the Crusaders.

“Traditionally the Crusaders play well against the Bulls and the fact that the game is not being played in Pretoria may be a problem for the Bulls,” Botes told the Sharks’ website.

“Who knows, maybe the Bulls will pull through by a point or two, but I believe it will be a closer game than the one in Cape Town. I believe the Stormers will be the form team when it comes to the final.

“The Bulls played superb rugby at the beginning of the tournament, but it’s as if they have lost momentum.

“If they can regain the form of the first few games, anything can happen.

“A final between the Bulls and Stormers would be huge. I believe it will come down to the same old story of which team is the hungriest for success.”

Even so, Botes believes the Stormers will be champions.

Wat weet hy after-all?

  • Blue Jake - 2010-05-19 04:36

"Traditionally the Crusaders play well against the Bulls". That explains why the Bulls have hammered the Crusaders 3 times in 2 years. Was this oke born in Cape Town or what?

  • fossil - 2010-05-19 06:09

thanks for that comment GJ. It epitomizes what a Bull supporter is all about!

  • BALSAK(alias Blue Bul Hater) - 2010-05-19 06:10

  • STORMER - 2010-05-19 06:38

This might well cause The Tards a choke or 9 whilst shovelling in their moerkoffie and beskuit for brekkies this morning....

Just goes to show. . . . . . . You can be a good rugby players but know sweet fanny adams about the game!!!!!!

  • Chiduli - 2010-05-19 07:25

GJ.......why are you hubcaps so arrogant?? The Bulls only won 10 to the Sharks's 7, having been robbed of 2 games thanks to a certain P.Marks!! What could have been. Botes is an exceptional player having achieved a great deal as a player.............what have you achieved?? You need to grow up!

  • Dan - 2010-05-19 07:27

Bulls will win the Super14 again this season. Go Bulls.

  • Laeveld Stormer - 2010-05-19 07:35

  • Amelam - 2010-05-19 08:11

@GJ.

  • William Shakespeare - 2010-05-19 08:25

Now if it was Naas Botha who had said that, then I would be worried... but I don't know much about this fellow - I haven't seen his TV show.

  • Bulls fan forever - 2010-05-19 08:25

Ha ha ha, and who actually beat the Sharks in the S14 this year. Bulls or Stormers? Even your coach who has tons of more experience than you have predicted the Bulls to take it. Just be quiet guppy!!! Go Bulls, make the whole of the world quiet!!!!

  • Bulls fan forever - 2010-05-19 08:34

Botes I think your brain has lost momentum pampoenkop. The Bulls won their very first game and the game after their bye without losing momentum. Orlando Stadium will be painted in blue and it will feel very much like Loftus. And the form team almost lost the second half against the Bulls reserve side (10-7). Sounds to me like they lost momentum there in the second half. Funny how everyone criticised the Bulls when they played festival rugby in the beginning and tightened up at the end, all of a sudden they have lost form? Bollocks!!! Bulls form last 4 games: WWWL, Stormers form last 4 games: LWLW. It is obvious the Bulls have better momentum there! You sound like a cry-baby Aussie/NZ or is the Stormers going to buy you too ?

  • Mr Bulls - 2010-05-19 08:39

Net n shark kan so n opmerking maak.lol.

  • AD - 2010-05-19 08:40

The Bulls doesn't have momentum? I honestly don't understand were people get off? The Bulls have so much experience when it comes to finals and I don't t think you lose momentum in 1 game when you field your second stringers. The Crusaders lost 3 of their last 4 matches so I don't know where their so called momentum comes from. The momentum and team on form thing is just and opinion. I think it depends on the team who pitch up on the day. In the 2007 RWC the All Black went in with all the momentum and form and fell short of reaching the semi's. The Bulls totally outplayed the Sharks in the league stages of the Super 14 , where the Sharks manage to beat the Stormers. So I don't know on what basis Botes makes his claim. I think its made on popularity rather then facts.

  • IQ - 2010-05-19 08:40

Jacques Botes you are a very insightful, knowledgeable, likeable young man and I am confident that your perception is 100% correct. WhoTF is GJ? Sounds a proper idiot to me.

I'll be happy to take your money from you!

  • Mark - 2010-05-19 09:13

    Botes what an idiot.

  • Bazz - 2010-05-19 09:18

When you read comments like that of GJ's you have to wonder why the True Blue Bulls supporters don't use this blog! Does he get to sprout drivel because a pee-brain like him can't get a job and spends his days on daddy's pc at home? Botes has probably played more S14 games than the number of times you've been laid sh.. for brains!! Why can't anyone have a different opinion to yours without being abused? You infantile wally! Go Bulls Go Stormers. PS - I support the Sharks but this weekend "my bloed is blou!" and "dark blue??"

  • TB - 2010-05-19 09:24

Agree with Jacques. Think the Bulls will battle against the Saders - they only just beat them on the last game and a lot of it was thanks to the strange decision by the ref. It's not going to be easy for the Bulls and Jacques recognises this. Everyone is entitled to their opinion so stop getting all your knickers in a knot.

  • Gerrit - 2010-05-19 09:34

Boots knows his rugby and is one of the most under rated loose forwards in our country. However, his opinion is just that: an opinion. Personally I don't see the 'Saders beating the Bulls even at Orlando. The Stormers will provide a stronger contest for the cup, should they see off the 'Tahs successfully.

  • Champ - 2010-05-19 13:14

I expect the Stormers will win on Saturday and I hope the Bulls do too. An all SA final would be great! However I think the Bulls have a huge challenge ahead of them.If they beat the Crusaders they will probably win the S14. I am not a Bulls or Stormers supporter but think the Bulls played great rugby during the whole S14 and deserve to win on form alone but the Crusaders are also a great side. The one thing that always puts a sour taste in ones mouth is that so many of the Bulls supporters are so narrow minded to the extent that one wonders about their actual intellect. It is great to be passionate about ones team but if this can only be shown through foul mouthed derogatory remarks about any other team, this leaves a lot to be desired. A great team like the Bulls deserves brighter supporters.

  • Effie @ Stormer - 2010-05-20 03:51

Help my tog, weet jou ma waar jy is jou donnerse haaslip?! Gaan huistoe en n@@i 'n haan man

  • Abi - 2010-05-25 13:26

Oh but you people are nasty and to think that you are all Springbok supporters. When Botes,Ricky,Habana,Jacques Fourie(all the guys you are badmouthing) plays for the Boks you get high and crazy. No wonder that most people choose to support other countries teams. STOP BICKERING!!!!! Enjoy your game and your team. May the best team win and remember for at least 2 hours 36000 plus supporters and 44 players and 30+ management are busy with something positive like playing and enjoying sports. No drugs, alcohol abuse ( except those few dops before the match) and crimes are being commited. HOORA TO SPORT!!
