Sydney - Berrick Barnes will happily wear the Waratahs jersey on Saturday but admits that only a few months ago he hated it.
In an interview in the Waratahs-Brumbies match program, the Test centre says that during his years with the Reds, he abhorred NSW "with a passion". "I don't think there's any team in Australia that doesn't hate NSW," Barnes said. "I mean, let's look at it . . . Queensland, they hate us, the Brumbies, they hate us, and I gather from all reports the Force don't like us too much either."
Despite all the drama when he left the Reds, Barnes is delighted they are moving up the Super 14 ladder. "They've gone on from strength to strength and the organisation appears to be cleaning itself up and they'll get close to the semis this year, if not make it." Barnes also admits he uses hair products. "I'll be honest with you, my mum's a hairdresser, so there's a bit of colour in there or something."
