Bakkies cited for Aplon 'hit'

2010-05-16 15:30

Cape Town - Bulls lock Bakkies Botha was cited for a charging into a ruck during his team’s Super 14 match against the Stormers at Newlands Stadium, in Cape Town.

Citing Commissioner Freek Burger cited Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player.

Botha made contact with Stormers right wing Gio Aplon in the second minute of the match. Aplon required treatment on the field as a result. The Stormers won the match, 38-10.

Botha will attend a judicial hearing at 13h00 on Monday, 17 May 2010, at the offices of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union in Pretoria.

  • STORMER - 2010-05-16 15:24

Oh dear. Justice 4 Bakkies armbands again? Or Justice 4 Hekkies vd Heever armbands? - Spoilt for choice are the Bullyboys....

  • Will - 2010-05-16 15:39

Don't worry about it, plenty more dumb thugs in that team to take his place ...

  • assegaai - 2010-05-16 15:46

Erm... wait for it... maybe the word 'JUSTICE' sounds appropiate... BULLS = TUGS N' HARMONY

  • Greg - 2010-05-16 15:59

    Will you are jealous.

  • Chimsoro - 2010-05-16 16:04

33 secopnds in to the game and the bonehead did exactly what he was banned for...then his mates went on for the next 80 minutes acting like a bunch of thugs on a mission to main and injure...thats why i will NEVER support the bulls..arrogant asseholes

  • Jannie Campbell - 2010-05-16 16:10

They are such bad losers the bully boys. There will be months of excuses this way and that. Button up especially the Bulls supporters. You better hope you do not play in the final against the stormers, because they will be on top of you so fast it will make your head spin. Go Stormers!!

  • @#$$%%$#@!@ the stommers - 2010-05-16 16:11

Bakkies should have cracked Aplon's peanut.

  • Hakuna Matata - 2010-05-16 16:11

You stormer girls are a bunch of whiners!!

  • peebo - 2010-05-16 16:18

ban the thug - all he had in mind was seeing Aplon stretchered off

  • Johnny - 2010-05-16 16:20

What about that other buffoon van der Merwe for his shoulder charge on Schalk....?

  • Skeptic - 2010-05-16 16:37

Bakkies Botha must be the biggest hypocrite on th erugbye field. Praying and then playing dirty!

  • johan - 2010-05-16 16:43

Stormers are a bunch off a****les and you can see they are jealous of the BULLS. Hope to see your lot off assholes in the final.Well done BAKKIES and he should be made man off the match!

  • Ruan - 2010-05-16 16:44

Wag vir die final dan sien ons!

  • BALSAK(alias Blue Bul Hater) - 2010-05-16 16:46

As a STORMERS SUPPORTER I agree with the citing of Bakkies, BUT I want Bulls and Stormers supporters to concentrate on the Semi's, and support each other. Let the disciplinary process of Bakkies not DISTRACT us. We need our two TOP teams in the Final!! Go STORMERS and BULLS!! STORMERS JOU LEKKA DENG!!!!

  • Stormtrooper - 2010-05-16 16:47

Bakkies deserves being cited. The Bulls were intent on injuring the Stormers during the game. Van der Merwe's shoulder charge was disgraceful. The Bulls played an ugly game, I have lost my respect for what I once thought to be a proud team. They only had one thing in mind and that was to take out as many Stormers players as possible by whatever means necessary.

  • Kees - 2010-05-16 16:49

  • @chimsoro - 2010-05-16 16:51

    Chimsoro, payo pako

  • ct - 2010-05-16 16:53

we prefer eye gouging and biting - go stormers

  • paul - 2010-05-16 16:54

  • BLOUBUL - 2010-05-16 16:56

Nee man bakkies, but i wish he put the hit on habana and not the smallest guy in the stormers team.

  • Eg Suid-Afrikaans - 2010-05-16 17:01

Ag tipies!!!

  • Jack - 2010-05-16 17:01

Let's face it. The Bulls were a bits and pieces side. They also had a very poor scrumhalf who almost single-handedly gave away 2 tries. So the issue is: why did the Stormers fall away so badly in the 2nd half? Bulls had 60% possession when in the first 30 minutes they could hardly get their hands on the ball. Based on this performance it is clear that the Waratahs are going to beat the Stormers.

  • Hypo? - 2010-05-16 17:02

Quote: "Bakkies Botha must be the biggest hypocrite on th erugbye field. Praying and then playing dirty!" Nonsense - God LOVES playing hard too !

  • STORMER - 2010-05-16 17:03

@Johan....when you are sober, read what you have written...and then ask yourself (preferably again whilst sober) if you are the type of person anyone should take seriously - EVER. Most supporters are fanatical and dish out flack, but take it just as well. YOUR TYPE (yes, you are a type, a class of your own) glorifies dirty play which in fact tells the rest of us A HECKUVA lot about your way of life. So Johan aka Lolly Jackson, take a bow - the tribe has spoken en jou VLAM IS GESTAM.

  • Emile @ Johnny - 2010-05-16 17:04

Ironically van der Merwe had to shoulder the biggest thug in world rugby. I think half the country hoped they will caary him of the field.

  • Neels - 2010-05-16 17:05

I am a Bulls supporter. It is time to remove the has-been (Bakkies) as he is more of a liability than an asset! Let's play the sport and send Bakkies to do boxing. He needs a serious F@%$UP!

  • Joke !!! - 2010-05-16 17:09

Bakkies is just like Schalk Burger - a marked man by all. Week after week after week we see the exact same clean-outs at the rucks. Go and have a look. Whenever it is Bakkies, it is a citing. Late, high and dangerous tackles, when it is Burger - it is a citing. The Aussies and NZ players do exactly the same and hardly ever get puniched. The must stop citing players when somebody gets injured. Cite all or leave them and allow us to watch normal hard rugby. This entire citing system is a joke.

  • Stefan - 2010-05-16 17:09

Hahahaha! O, en as julle my wil gooi met jul ou retoriese comebacks relating to Bakkies se kop en domheid etc, hy is darem 'n gekwalifiseerde oogkundige. Tel seker vir iets right...

  • Good buy Bullies - 2010-05-16 17:12

The final will be in Cape Town, neutral ref will not save the Bulls again...

  • Blue machine - 2010-05-16 17:15

Geez aplon is a meisie imagine if he plays for the bokke we don't need soft little girls in the bok team.Bakkies is a real man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • POPS - 2010-05-16 17:16

  • Charlie - 2010-05-16 17:28

Hope this stupid d******n gets 6 a six month ban. We don't need him, we've got Bekker. The Bulls are going to see their @rses against the Crusaders on Saturday and then we're going to hear the excuses of playing in Soweto

  • Henk - 2010-05-16 17:29

Kees, jou naam pas by jou mentaliteit !!!

  • namib - 2010-05-16 17:30

It was clear the bulls wanted to hurt the stormers. If bakkies is found guilty then so be it. The bulls have not needed him to reach the top. The bulls will win the super 14 AGAIN this year. The stormers pack cannot beat the waratahs or the bulls

  • Clive - 2010-05-16 17:32

Interesting that those so-called rugby fans who are so one-eyed that they see no good in any other team, have to resort to vulgar language and "hate speech" (often with lousy spelling) to try and make their point. They don't deem it necessary to back up their opinions with any logical arguments. Johan (above @4.43, and the illiterate one @4.11) are classic cases in point. Although neither of these teams is my first choice, I, like all genuine SA rugby fans, will be hoping for a Stormers/Bulls final. As for Bakkies, if he gets another "holiday" he will have no one to blame but himself. In any case, the Bulls have done pretty well without him all season.

  • Carl Muller - 2010-05-16 17:41

  • Whitey - 2010-05-16 17:45

Aplon is te lig in die broek

  • bomskok - 2010-05-16 17:49

@ Jack Because the Stormers sent their replacements on in the 2nd half when it became clear the little calves were not in their league.

  • Lenette - 2010-05-16 17:56

  • STORMER - 2010-05-16 17:57

@Carl Muller a.k.a. "ai siestog ek is 'n man" Mate I am actually going to stop attacking you, and start praying for you. (In fact let's chat shall we, once a player is seriously injured as the result of INTENTIONAL OFF THE BALL DIRTY TRICKS)

  • stompies - 2010-05-16 17:59

@Good buy Bullies: you can hardly caal Craig Joubert NEUTRAL

  • Vic J - 2010-05-16 18:00

This was on the cards when he was included in the side and made captain. A friend told me he prays before the game so the ref wont see his intentions and play 80 minutes.

  • stompies - 2010-05-16 18:01

Freek Burger!! The Stormers are realy scraping the bottom in achieving their goal!

  • Gren - 2010-05-16 18:03

Dirty player needs to be punished , not the first time !!1

  • Sharky - 2010-05-16 18:03

The hit was malicious. It was done with the intent to cause a head injury, why else do something as stupid (or was he aiming for his neck)? We all like rugby being a hard game etc but like eye gouging, for example, is not allowed in extreme fighting, this kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated in rugby. All those Bulls supporters who condone this behaviour must start thinking for change...

  • HANO - 2010-05-16 18:10

  • Willem - 2010-05-16 18:25

Freek is from Cape Town. Assisting his team a bit. They will need all the assistance that they can get. By the way. Old Freek and Alan Zondagh benefited handsomely from Fidentia money in the so- called Rugby Performance Centre in the Cape. Did they ever repay the money to the widows and orphans? Talk about a reason to cite someone.
