Cape Town - The Strauss cousins, Richardt and Adriaan, could face each other when the Springboks tackle Ireland in Dublin on November 10.
Richardt Strauss's agent, Stephan Wyers, told Volksblad his client will become eligible to play for Ireland on November 4. He joined Irish club Leinster after the 2009 Currie Cup when he and his cousin Adriaan were the two hookers in the Free State squad.
While Adriaan has gone on to play 18 Tests for the Springboks, Richardt, 26, has shined for Leinster and Irish coach Declan Kidney has expressed an interest to pick him. Earlier this year he called him up to his squad when they were preparing for a Test against France.
Richardt, who played for the Cheetahs from 2006-2009, will compete against the 30-year-old Rory Best and 26-year-old Sean Cronin for a place in the Ireland side.
The burly hooker has kept Cronin out of the Leinster starting line-up for most of the year which indicates how close he is to a Test call-up, and with Adriaan the current Bok incumbent at hooker, the cousins look likely to lock horns at the Aviva Stadium.
