Stormers want Senatla for S15

Cape Town - Western Province Director of Rugby Gert Smal is hoping that the union could negotiate a deal which would allow wing Seabelo Senatla to play Super Rugby for the Stormers.

The speedster was earlier this week included in the Springbok touring squad for their end-of-year tour to Europe. He was rewarded after playing a big part in helping Western Province claim the Currie Cup title.

However, the Sevens Springbok has a unique contract with WP Rugby and the Blitzbokke which allows him to play for both sides for the next three years.

It allows him to play 15-man rugby for WP, but he has to report for sevens duty when the Blitzbokke take part in the Sevens World Series. That series goes into full swing from early December onwards, with tournaments in Dubai and Port Elizabeth and running again from February through to mid-May. This would see Senatla miss most parts of the Stormers' Super Rugby campaign.

But Smal confirmed to the Cape Times that the union will do everything it can to try and make Senatla available for Super Rugby.

Smal will hold a meeting this week with SARU's manager of high performance, Rassie Erasmus, in the hope of coming to an agreement.
