Cape Town - Former Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu will be groomed to take over as defence coach of the Stormers.
The Western Province Rugby Union earlier this week announced the signing of the former Blitzbokke and Kenya Sevens coach.
There was confusion as to what Treu's specific role at the union would be, but it has since been revealed that he will be allowed to gradually grow accustomed to their structures to become defence coach.
According to Netwerk24, head coach Allister Coetzee and Greg Hechter will for the time being take charge of the Stormers defence while Treu finds his feet, but the long-term plan is for Treu to take over as defence coach at the union.
Treu, 43, is expected to get his first taste of Super Rugby coaching early in the new year.
Treu is a highly-regarded coach on the World Sevens circuit, having put South African Sevens on the map by guiding the Blitzbokke to the overall IRB Sevens World Series title in 2008/09 and recently also finishing a stint as coach of the national Kenyan Sevens team.
Treu coached the SA Sevens team between 2004 and 2013, leading them to an overall tally of 14 tournament wins and building a professional and structured squad set-up in the process.
WP also announced the signings of Rito Hlungwani and Hanyani Shimange.
Hlungwani, a former WP lock, will be the forwards coach of the WP Under-19s, while Shimange will be involved with the Under-21 and Vodacom Cup sides.
