The big loosehead prop was withdrawn from the team on the 11th hour ahead of the opening tour match against Ireland at Aviva Stadium in Dublin this past weekend. Mtawarira suffered a recurrence of a heart palpitation problem and was rushed to hospital, with CJ van der Linde replacing him in the front row.
The prop underwent an extensive examination in hospital, and was released later on Saturday after being cleared of any serious complications. There was speculation that Mtawarira might be forced to fly home early, and the medical staff were awaiting further information and reports from specialists who have treated the player in the past.
However, it looked all systems go for Mtawarira on Sunday as he joined his team-mates in the departure lounge of Dublin International Airport, with the destination being Edinburgh and not London on what would have been the first stop on a flight home. The player looked relaxed and according to a team source he is “fine” and will probably be available to play on Saturday.
