Venter: Should Jurie Roux pick Bok coach?

Cape Town - Former Springbok centre Brendan Venter has questioned whether South African Rugby Union (SARU) CEO Jurie Roux can be involved in the process of finding a new Bok coach.

Roux is facing allegations of financial mismanagement against him that stem from his time at Stellenbosch University.

It was reported on Wednesday that Roux “manipulated” financial management systems to favour the rugby programme during his time at the university.

A preliminary report by audit firm KPMG reveals that Roux “hid” spending and “withheld” about R35m of the university’s reserves from the university council.

Venter took to twitter this week when he heard of the allegations against Roux and argued that SARU cannot involve the CEO in naming the new Springbok coach.

Venter tweeted:

Regarding the new Springbok coach, Venter feels the time is right for Allister Coetzee to get the job. However, Venter said Coetzee should be allowed to pick his own assistants if he is selected.
