Mostert pays tribute to Ackermann

Cape Town - Springbok call-up Franco Mostert has highlighted his transfer to the Lions in 2013 as being critical to his career as he nears a Test debut.

The 25-year-old, who switched from the Bulls to the Lions after the 2012 season, has built a reputation as a rugged second-row forward.

Mostert, like the Lions, is enjoying an impressive season thus far in Super Rugby and with Pieter-Steph du Toit injured, he got a call for the series against Ireland. He is likely to be on the bench next weekend, and admitted his move to Johannesburg helped make this happen.

"The Bulls are a good union and therefore the move to the Lions was a massive decision for me," the in-form lock explained to the media on Thursday.

"(But) to get an opportunity to play regular Super Rugby was just too good to turn down. We're enjoying our rugby so much."

Playing under former Bok Johan Ackermann has clearly helped Mostert develop as a player and he had only good things to say about his boss.

"Johan is a great head coach for us and also a huge role model in life," he added.

"He's always told us to play for the jersey and play for each other. That's why I think we've such a brotherhood at the Lions. He also tells us to enjoy it and be grateful every day for you have."
