Cape Town - Lionel Mapoe sat out of practice on Tuesday as the Springboks trained at the High Performance Institute in Stellenbosch.
The Lions outside centre has been in the form of his life recently and has been widely touted to start at 13 for the Boks when they take on Ireland on June 11 in Cape Town.

Springbok assistant coach Johann van Graan was coy about giving any definitive answers when asked about Lionel's omission from training and said the question of the centre's health should be referred to the medical staff.

"I think you'll have to speak to the medical team about that," said Van Graan.

"We had obviously a gym session and a rugby session I think the big thing is about the management of players individually.

"They are in the middle of the season, they have been exposed to a lot of bumps and bruises. It's about managing the individual and know at some stage the medical team will pull some guys out and pull them in.

"One thing I can say about Lionel Mapoe, was fantastic in yesterday's session.

"He ran some brilliant lines and flip it what a brilliant rugby player. I mean look at the weekends performance I think he's been consistent over the year you know and if he gets selected next Saturday I mean he's had only one Test with a few seconds on and I can't wait to see him play whether it's from the bench or a it's starting role," Van Graan concluded.

Mapoe has an incredible season so far with the Lions.

He's scored nine tries this campaign which means he ranks second on the overall try scoring rankings.
