Boks 'perfect' at home against Irish

Cape Town - The Springboks will start their 2016 international season with a home series against Ireland.

This was confirmed last week when the South African Rugby Union (SARU) confirmed the home venues for next season’s Springbok matches.

The first match is scheduled for Newlands, Cape Town on June 11, before Tests at Ellis Park (Johannesburg, June 18) and Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth, June 25).

It will be the first time ever that the two nations face each other in a three-Test series.

Over the years, South Africa and Ireland have played each other in 22 Tests, with the Boks boasting a 16-5 win-loss record, with one match ending in a draw.

Ireland toured South Africa for two Tests in 1981, 1998 and 2004. They also visited the country for a one-off Test in 1961.

The Irish are also yet to beat the Boks in seven Tests in South Africa - their best effort a 12-10 reverse at Kings Park in 1981.

But Ireland will take heart from the fact that they have beaten the Boks in four of their last six encounters - although all those wins came in Ireland.
