WIN: Cell C Sharks home Super Rugby tickets!
Matfield, 36, retired after the 2011 Rugby World Cup but made his return for the Bulls in a 26-19 pre-season loss to the Stormers in Polokwane on Saturday.
He has made his intentions clear that he wants to play for the Springboks again and believes the current team under Heyneke Meyer is destined for greatness.
"I have played in three World Cups and won one. In my view, the current Bok team is the best one ever and will take the trophy next year," Matfield told the Rapport newspaper.
"I want to be part of that team. It would be absolutely fantastic to finally walk away from the game in such a triumphant manner and then turn my focus to coaching."
