Cape Town - The South African Rugby Union (SARU) confirmed that Jan Serfontein has withdrawn from the South Africa Under-20 squad for the Junior World Championship (JWC) and will be replaced by Bulls team-mate, Rohan Janse van Rensburg.
The Rugby365 website reports that Serfontein, the IRB Junior Player of the Year in 2012 and standout player of last year’s JWC tournament, is currently a member of the Springbok training group, which just completed a training camp in Durban.
This means Serfontein is likely to be named in Bok coach Heyneke Meyer's final Test squad for the upcoming series against Samoa, Scotland and Italy. Meyer will name his squad on Saturday evening.
Janse van Rensburg represented the South African Schools team last year and also attended the South Africa Under-20s’ previous training camp two weeks ago as a reserve player.
The Junior Springboks will travel to France on Thursday to defend the JWC title they won on home soil last year.
The JWC tournament will be held from June 5 to 23 across three venues in France.
