SARU release Springbok App

Durban - The South African Rugby Union (SARU) today unveiled the official free Springbok smartphone app for android.

The simply-titled Springbok app is the first mobile product devoted solely to our rugby heroes, and is available for free on all Android smartphone and tablet devices immediately.

An IOS version will be made available next week.

The application aims to put key information and entertaining content directly into the hands of supporters at the push of a button.

“The mobile phone landscape has changed significantly in the past couple of years and we at SARU realise the importance of keeping up with technology,” said SARU CEO Jurie Roux.

“We already have a very well-established website, mobisite, Twitter, Facebook and other social media channels as well as a digital magazine, and the development of the smartphone app is the logical next step in putting our supporters in direct touch with the Springboks and South African rugby.

“Apart from regular features such as news, fixtures, results, logs and player profiles, the app will also have exclusive content generated from within the Bok camp and other national teams, with the aim of bringing the fan closer to the team.”

The app has been released to coincide with the start of the Castle Lager Incoming Series.

The visually striking, but easy-to-navigate app allows users to instantly access all the latest match updates as well as navigate a timeline that provides every major event in every Springbok test dating all the way back to 1891.

The App has been developed in partnership with SARU by Durban-based technology company, immedia.
