Johannesburg - The South African Rugby Union says it won't speculate on reports that former coach Jake White has approached its president Oregan Hoskins about leading the Springboks to the World Cup instead of current coach Peter de Villiers.

SARU communications manager Andy Colquhoun says "there could be half a dozen coaches wanting to take over from Peter, that doesn't mean it's going to happen" and "we are not going to speculate."

White was quoted by South African newspaper The Times as saying he was ready to "coach the Springboks to the World Cup in 2011".

White says Hoskins "keeps telling me he has to run the idea past the executive council".

Under De Villiers, the defending champions have lost five out of six games in the Tri-Nations.
