SABC’s Habashwe soundtrack to rally nation behind the Boks

Cape Town - The soundtrack for the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign - Habashwe, Lets do this - has been released.

VIDEO: If this 60 second video doesn't leave you wanting to join the scrum with the Boks, nothing will!

Produced by Oskido and DJ Maphorisa, the campaign’s official song, Habashwe, which is co-owned by the SABC, features artists Oskido and Tamara Dey, with Stoan Seate, DJ Maphorisa and Professor. SABC sports presenter Minnie Dlamini also makes a guest appearance in the music video.

Habashwe is about bringing all South Africans together in support of the Springboks. Our aim is to create excitement around the live broadcast of the Rugby World Cup on SABC 2 and various SABC radio stations,” says the SABC’s Head of Marketing Elouise Kelly.

The SABC launched its Rugby World Cup campaign earlier this month, after going to great lengths to ensure that all South Africans have the opportunity to view the tournament.

Kelly believes that the soundtrack embodies the spirit and celebration of South Africans, and will work as a rallying cry behind the Boks.

Through the campaign the SABC hopes to bring rugby to all South Africans, especially those without access to games on a regular basis. The broadcaster’s world-class coverage in English and vernacular languages across television and radio means that they are perfectly placed to deliver the best coverage.

Stoan Seate, brand ambassador of the SABC Habashwe campaign, says they are really excited about the track and believe that it will inspire the country ahead of kick-off.

“Working with the talent on this track has been an awesome experience. We are keen to hear what the public thinks of it,” states Seate.

Prolific music producer Oskido was also instrumental in creating the SABC’s 2011 Rugby World Cup Song It’s Our Game, which featured Professor and guest appearances by “Oubaas” and Khanyi Mbau.

“It is always an honour to be involved in nation building projects. Supporting the Springboks at the World Cup will bring South Africans together – that’s what this song is about,” says Oskido.

Other SABC talent who will appear in the video are Laduma’s Xoli Zondo and Andile Ncube, Soccerzone’s Sphiwe Mkhonza and Sport@10’s Thapelo Seemise.

The release of Habashwe follows the launch of the SABC’s Rugby World Cup Campaign on August 14. Habashwe, Lets do this is the SABC’s commitment to get all South Africans behind the Springboks and reiterates SABC’s commitment to broadcast the tournament live on SABC 2 and various radio stations.
