Cape Town - The Springboks could enter this year's Rugby Championship with a new centre combination featuring Jean de Villiers and Damian de Allende, Die Burger reports.
Both players are due to return from knee injuries and could start in midfield when the Boks open their campaign against Argentina at Loftus Versfeld on August 16.
Bok coach Heyneke Meyer said earlier this year that De Villiers would return to captain the national team during the Rugby Championship. Victor Matfield took over the captaincy during his absence last month.
JP Pietersen played in the No 13 jersey in the June internationals but he'll return to Japan after the completion of the Super Rugby competition.
With Jaque Fourie out injured, De Allende will be a strong candidate to start at No 13. Meyer earlier indicated that he would have utilised De Allende against Wales and Scotland if he was not ruled out.
With De Villiers expected to be back, Jan Serfontein could be moved back to the substitutes bench if De Allende is picked to start.
