Cape Town - The Springboks on Monday received welcome news with fullback Willie le Roux cleared of any fractures after undergoing a scan.
Le Roux picked up a cheekbone injury in last Saturday's 31-28 win over England at Twickenham.
His participation for this Saturday's Test against Italy in Padova was still in doubt when he went for a scan on Monday.
But the results from the scan were positive and the fullback will be able to take his place this weekend.
"We’ll manage Willie during training this week but he should be available to face Italy," team doctor Craig Roberts said via a statement released to the media.
Meanwhile, the Boks did receive some bad news when prop Jannie du Plessis was ruled out with a leg injury. Du Plessis left the field in the win over England last Saturday after injuring his hamstring and knee.
Golden Lions prop Ruan Dreyer will join the Springboks in Padova on Tuesday.
