Currie Cup nightmare for Meyer

Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is hoping the returning Springbok players remain injury free during the tail-end of the Currie Cup.

As it happened: Boks v NZ

With the Rugby Championship now a thing of the past, the Springboks will return to their various provinces this week as Currie Cup action hots up.

Meyer though is not entirely upbeat about his players playing over the next three weeks as he would like them to be fresh for the end-of-year tour to Europe.

South Africa play Wales (November 9), Scotland (November 17) and France (November 23) in three consecutive Tests next month.

The Currie Cup final is on October 26 which means there will hardly be any time for a lot of Meyer's key men to rest.

Meyer, in an interview with the Beeld website following his side's 38-27 loss to the All Blacks at the weekend, said he wished he was in All Black coach Steve Hansen's shoes.

"Our players will play Currie Cup now and I hope they stay injury free for our tour. The All Blacks will now have time to rest and I wish I was in that position," said Meyer.
