Bok’s missing dog found

Cape Town – Springbok squad hooker Scarra Ntubeni spent an anxious day or two on the European tour this weekend wondering about the welfare of his missing dog back home in Newlands and offering a cash reward to the finder.

He was concerned enough to tweet (@skara2ntubeni) on Sunday: “Guys, anyone find a black pit bull in Newlands area with a white batman spot on her chest? Please let me know. R10 000 reward.”

The story has a good ending: on Saturday an alert, considerate Pam Heiberg, who works in the marketing and PTA department of Rustenberg Girls Junior School in nearby Rondebosch, had found the dog on the Liesbeek River trail near SA Breweries.

She said in an email to a Newlands residents’ group: “Ran with her to the Belmont 24-hour vet, but they would only keep her until I went home to fetch my car.

“We have three dogs and they didn’t get on too well so have taken her to the SPCA in Grassy Park. I’m sure her owner must be desperate, she is gorgeous.”

On Monday she provided an update: “Such an awesome story. The owner is Scarra, he plays hooker for the Stormers and he offered a R10k reward on Twitter.

“When I was at the SPCA I took pics of the fire that they had (in their charity shop) last week so I have asked him to give the reward to them.

“Just love a happy ending.”

Ntubeni is passionate about his dog; she has been spotted before at Stormers or WP training sessions.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
