Cape Town - Andries Bekker’s Springbok future appears to be in the hands of his Japanese club, the Kobe Kobelco Steelers.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer on Tuesday had a one-on-one with the tall lock to gauge his interest in and suitability to returning to green-and-gold duty this year.
Bekker, 31, had made himself unavailable for Springbok selection when he moved to Japan in 2013.
According to Netwerk24, Meyer had a “good conversation” with Bekker, but the player needs to discuss the situation with the Steelers.
Bekker recently indicated that he would like to represent the Boks again.
He played the last of his 29 Tests against the All Blacks in Johannesburg in 2012.
