Neck surgery for Nel

Cape Town - Scotland and Edinburgh tighthead prop WP Nel has undergone surgery on a neck injury sustained in his club side's win over Harlequins.

An MRI scan on Wednesday, January 18 at Spire Murrayfield Hospital revealed that Nel damaged an intervertebral disc in his neck during a significant collision during the Challenge Cup fixture.

Following further assessment, surgery was deemed as an appropriate course of action.

"Nel will now commence a rehabilitation programme, with a return-to-play date to be determined in due course," Scottish Rugby confirmed.
