London - England prop Andrew Sheridan has been ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations after tearing a calf muscle in last weekend's victory over France, team manager Martin Johnson confirmed Tuesday.
Giant loosehead Sheridan limped off midway through the first half of Saturday's match at Twickenham to be replaced by youngster Alex Corbisiero.
A scan subsequently revealed Sheridan had torn a calf muscle, Johnson said.
The injury deals a blow to England's hopes of winning their first Grand Slam in eight years.
Johnson's unbeaten side face Scotland at home on March 13 before travelling to Dublin to face Ireland the following week.
The injury is also bitterly disappointing for Sheridan, 31, who returned to international rugby last autumn after a long absence due to a shoulder injury.
