Paris - France centre Florian Fritz was on Monday cited for gouging during Saturday's Six Nations test against 30-21 winners Ireland at Croke Park, Dublin.
The Toulouse player has been summoned to appear before the Six Nations' disciplinary commission to answer the charge in London on Wednesday.
Fritz was accused in a statement released by the disciplinary commission of "making contact with the eyes or eyes area of an opponent during the game".
It did not expand on the alleged incident.
Fritz earned his 14th cap in Saturday's loss. France face Scotland at the Stade de France in Paris this weekend, a game Fritz will miss if found guilty.
