Blow to Wales for Six Nations

London - Wales will be without experienced prop Gethin Jenkins for this season's Six Nations after his club Cardiff Blues said he needed surgery on his toe.

"Gethin went to see the specialist late last week and the recommendation was to have an operation on his toe," Cardiff Blues director of rugby David Young said on the club's website.

"The toe has caused him a problem for about twelve months now, so he's booked to have an operation on Wednesday that would mean he's out from 10 to 12 weeks, which will mean he will miss the Six Nations, which is a big blow for us and Wales."

Jenkins, 30, has won 76 caps, and played against Australia and New Zealand in the November internationals.

Wales will also be without scrum half Richie Rees for the tournament which starts against England on February 4 after he was suspended for 12 weeks for an incident while playing for Cardiff against Northampton in the Heineken Cup.

Rees was found guilty of "making contact" with the eye of Northampton hooker Dylan Hartley.
