Blitzboks down NZ, secure Singapore SF spot

Cape Town - The Blitzboks are into the semi-finals of the Singapore Sevens after a 12-7 win over New Zealand.

South Africa sprinted out of the blocks, scoring in the first minute as Seabelo Senatla used his pace to get over in the left-hand corner for an unconverted try.

New Zealand fought back strongly and gained the lead in the 5th minute as Kurt Baker sliced through the Blitzboks defence to go over under the poles for a converted try.

The Blitzboks reclaimed the lead on the stroke of half-time after some excellent interplay saw them surge up the field for captain Kyle Brown to get over for a converted try after handling four times in the build-up.

The Blitzboks led 12-7 at half-time

The second half was an extremely cagey affair with New Zealand having most of the possession.

The Blitzboks, however, were determined to keep their slender 5 point lead and despite wave after wave of New Zealand attacks, held on until the final whistle.

They will now face Fiji in the semi-final.

The game kicks off at 10.26 (SA time).
