No Ebersohn for Blitzbokke

Cape Town - Cheetahs centre Robert Ebersohn will not be released by his franchise to play for the Blitzbokke in the first two Sevens World Series events of 2013.

The SA Sevens side had hoped to use the skilful Ebersohn for events in New Zealand (February 1-2) and the USA (February 8-10).

However, according to the Volksblad website, Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské decided not to release Ebersohn to Paul Treu's Blitzbokke.

The centre is looking fit and raring to go in 2013, but played a lot of rugby last year. A hamstring injury prevented him from featuring in the year's last two Sevens events in Dubai and Port Elizabeth.

"We decided, together with Robert, that he played too much rugby last year," said Drotské.

The Cheetahs resumed their Super Rugby preparations on Monday.

They play two warm-up games (against the Lions on January 26 and Bulls on February 9) before opening their campaign against the Sharks in Bloemfontein on February 23.
