Johannesburg - Paul Treu's Sevens Springboks will leave for the Sevens World Cup in Dubai next Friday with a surprise or two for their opponents.
The Boks on Thursday arrived back from the San Diego tournament of the IRB Sevens World Series where they were eliminated in the semi-final.
"We set the pace in Dubai and George and many of the other sides copied what we're doing in the later tournaments.
"We'll have to come up with something new," said the innovative coach, and added they will be working on something new to take to the Sevens World Cup in Dubai.
Treu admitted the two tournaments in Wellington and San Diego were very taxing and also tiring.
"We knew it would be, and that we would be targeted as the leaders on the Series points standings.
"The injury to (Mzwandile) Stick didn't help and did disrupt us to some extent, as did the injuries to Philip Snyman and Robert Ebesohn. But that's no excuse, we made too many mistakes in the San Diego semi-final against England.
"Having said that, if you had told me before the kick-off to this year's series that we would be leading the log halfway through the competition, I would have taken it - even though we share the lead with England."
The Springbok side for the Sevens World Cup will be announced after the fitness tests to a number of injured players such as captain Stick, last year's captain Neil Powell and experienced Marius Schoeman.
Except for a brief appearance by Schoeman in the Dubai tournament before he injured his arm, Powell and Schoeman have not been part of the 2008/09 Series' success story.
