Cape Town - The Springbok Sevens team secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Sevens with a clinical 45-0 demolition job of hosts Hong Kong on Saturday.
After their wobbly start to day one, where minnows Spain shocked them by scoring first, it was a much more focused performance from the BlitzBokke, who showed their intent from the kickoff and scored five tries in the first half to blow the opposition away.
A hat-trick to Western Province’s Chris Dry set the pace, while captain Kyle Brown was the shining light in a comprehensive victory that will set the tone for the rest of the day’s play.
From the kickoff a massive hit by Brown ensured a good start, winning the ball and sending Sibusiso Sithole away at the other end of the field for the opening try.
Paul Delport’s chip over the defence set-up the second try, as Cecil Afrika’s pace beat the defence to score his 25th try of this year’s HSBC Sevens series and another Brown break shortly afterwards gave Chris Dry his first touchdown of the match.
Brown drew two defenders and popped the pass to Delport to give him the fourth try while the fifth came after the captain robbed a Hong Kong attacker at the breakdown and sent Afrika away for his second try on the stroke of halftime.
Chris Dry added a second with a reaching arm after being stopped short of the tryline early in the second half and was on hand to take the final pass from Boom Prinsloo to finish the game.
South Africa have their pool decider at 11.28am (CAT, GMT +2) against World Cup winners Wales.
