George - Zimbabwe became the second scalp the Springbok Sevens squad claimed at the Emirates Airline George Sevens on Friday when they lost 33-7 to the hosts.
It took the Boks just 25 seconds to cross the try line for the first time, with Cecil Afrika combining well with Branco du Preez to open the scoring.
After a short stoppage in play -- the result of an injury picked up by Zimbabwe’s Wesley Mbanje -- Pieter Engelbrecht scored his second try of the day before Afrika added his third of the tournament.
As was the case earlier, when the Boks beat Portugal 38-0, Afrika’s goal kicking was exemplary.
Had it not been for the outstanding try scored by Tafadzwa Chitokwindo before the break, South Africa would have had a 21-0 lead entering the second half.
With the match in the bag at 21-7 the Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu could once again blood some of his younger players.
However, it was the experienced Frankie Horne who added his name to the score sheet in the second half along with Afrika and Bernado Botha.
The Springbok Sevens squad next face Argentina at 8.38pm.
Scorers:
Springboks 33(21): Tries: Cecil Afrika (2), Pieter Engelbrecht, Bernado Botha, Frankie Horne. Conversions: Afrika (4).
Zimbabwe 7(7): Try: Tafadzwa Chitokwindo. Conversion: Tangai Nemadire.
