60 000 Cape Town Sevens tickets sold

Cape Town - More than 60 000 tickets to the 2016 HSBC Cape Town Sevens, to be held on December 10/11, were snapped up by the public on the first day of sales, SA Rugby said on Friday.

Computicket confirmed that 60 703 tickets had been sold by 17:00 on Friday.

Sales opened at 09:00 through their website, ticket offices and at Shoprite and Checkers outlets with rugby fans rushing to snap up tickets. Almost 23 000 tickets were sold for Saturday's action with Sunday sales topping 38 000.

SA Rugby on Friday thanked the rugby-loving public for the support shown so far and again advised that Computicket is the only official ticket service provider for online sales and through their outlets at Checkers and at Shoprite. Tickets are priced at R150 and R250 for a full day’s rugby action.

“It is awesome to see the support from the public and one can almost feel the excitement already,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.

“There are still tickets available, but they are selling fast so we’d like to urge fans to buy now to avoid disappointment.

“We are aware of aware of other outlets selling tickets at higher prices, but SA Rugby can’t guarantee the validity of those tickets.”

Tickets to a dedicated, alcohol-free family stand on the northern side of the Cape Town Stadium are available adjacent to a Kiddies Village (entrance to this play area is free of charge), while the opposite South Stand has been designated as the Party Stand. An additional beer garden and more Food Lover’s Market stands have been added to the plans for this year’s event.

Private suites have already sold out, but all-inclusive hospitality packages, starting at R2 995 per person per day (excluding VAT), are still available from SA Rugby through Mingon van Rooyen at mingonv@sarugby.co.za.

For fans travelling from abroad or out of town, tickets and travel packages are also available from SA Rugby Travel (www.sarugbytravel.com). Megapro has supporters’ packages available and they can be purchased for Saturday only (R1 895 per person, excluding VAT), Sunday only (R2 295 per person, excluding VAT) or Weekend Package (R3 700 per person, excluding VAT). Contact john@megapro.co.za for packages.

MyCiti bus services will be tailored to the event to alleviate parking around the stadium and add to the spectator experience. Schedules will be issued in due course.
