Pretorius to stay at Cheetahs

Cape Town - Cheetahs scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius has confirmed that he will play for the central franchise in next year's Super Rugby competition.

The 28-year-old played for Australian outfit, the Waratahs, in this year's competition after joining as their marquee signing on a two-year deal to replace Wallaby Luke Burgess.

However, he fell out of favour at the union and finished the season as third-choice No 9 behind Grayson Hart and Brendan McKibbin.

Pretorius, currently playing for the Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup, was initially due to return to Sydney ahead of next year's Super season. However, the Herald Sun's website reported on Monday that the Waratahs decided to release the scrumhalf from their squad.

Pretorius announced via his Twitter account that he'll be staying in Bloemfontein.

"Happy to say, I am staying in bloemmies for next years Super Rugby season!"
he tweeted.
