Tweet and Picture of the Day

Cape Town - The Tweets in Today’s “Tweet and Picture of the Day” come from several former and current Springbok players, as well as a South African cricket star.

The first tweet is an interesting fact about today’s only game between South Africa and Namibia, and comes straight from the official Rugby World Cup Twitter account (@rugbyworldcup).

“(Sic)#RSA v #NAM is the first all-African match in RWC history. Kick-off 20.00 NZT at North Harbour Stadium @bokrugby #RWC2011.”

Lock and vice-captain Victor Matfield (@VictorMatfield) was the first player in the Springbok team to tweet about today’s match, and he expressed his dismay at being ruled out of his third game in a row at the World Cup.

“(Sic)Getting ready to go to the game. Hopefully this will be my last game in the stands. Wanne get back on the park.”

However, the match got a lot more attention on Twitter after Bryan Habana scored his 39th try in Springbok colours and broke former scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen’s record.

Former Bok wing Breyton Paulse (@BreytonPaulse) congratulated the player soon after he scored. “(Sic)Well done to Bryan for getting the Springbok record for most tries scored, what a moment for the flyer!”

South African cricketer AB de Villiers (@ABdeVilliers17) also praised Habana when he mentioned the winger in a Tweet. “(Sic)Well done, @BryanHabana with the SA record for most tries! 39!!!! Go you good thing.”

Former Springbok and Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant (@ PeterGrant) chose to compliment inside centre Francois Steyn for his performance in the game. "(Sic)I reckon Frans Steyn is the best rugby player in the world! It's a big call I know, but he is just a machine!"

The last tweet selected, as well as today’s picture (see below), also comes from Paulse and finally lets us all know what Supersport presenters do in the studio while we watch the rugby.

“(Sic)The three muscuteers having fun in studio,@Ashwinwillemse busy making us coffee, his the youngest.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
