Cape Town - Each day the Sport24 team will select the best Performance, worst performance (or Plonker) and the best Picture to come from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Today's "PPP" sees Samoan winger Alesana Tuilagi grab the gold star, England lock Courtney Lawes don the dunce hat and a fellow wearing not much more than his birthday suit featured in the picture of the day.
Performance: Alesana Tuilagi
Alesana Tuilagi’s stunning performance against Namibia in the first game of the day was easily the best by any player in any of the three matches that took place.
Tuilagi scored three tries in the game and proved to be a nightmare for the Namibian defence, with the Welwitshas having to commit two or three players to stop him whenever he had the ball.
The massive 1.85 meter tall, 119 kilogram Leicester Tigers player was a danger from the first whistle and scored his first try, and Samoa’s second, 17 minutes into the match.
The Samoan winger grabbed his second five minutes from half-time, and completed his hattrick in the 54th minute.
Plonker: Courtney Lawes
The young England forward earns the first Sport24 2011 Rugby World Cup Plonker award for his foul play in England’s opening game against Argentina on Saturday September 10, and his subsequent banning.
Lawes kneed Argentina hooker Mario Ledesma in the first half of the match, while both players were on the ground after the England player had tackled Ledesma.
The Northampton Saints player was given a two week ban for his actions - which could be considered lenient when compared to bans received by other players for similar actions.
