Cape Town - Each day the Sport24 team will select the best Performance, worst performance (or Plonker) and the best Picture to come from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Japanese winger Hirotoki Onozawa has been crowned as today’s performer, while the Boks have been named as the Plonker and a picture of the Haka has been selected as the best image.
Performance: Hirotoki Onozawa
The Brave Blossoms wing was selected because of his very brave performance against New Zealand, a match that ended how everyone expected it to.
The All Blacks won the game 83-7, but it could have ended with Japan on zero if Onozawa had not scored a try.
The Suntory Sungoliath winger intercepted a pass from Colin Slade and ran 40 meters to dot down. Onozawa earned his tenth Rugby World Cup cap on the day and the try means that he has scored in all three tournaments he has played in.
Plonker: The Springbok coaching staff
The Boks’ strange selections for their game against Fiji have made them perfect Plonker candidates.
Peter de Villiers has named four forwards and three backs on his substitutes bench, but has omitted a specialist tight-head prop from the replacements.
The lack of cover at three means that John Smit will likely switch to the right side of the scrum if Jannie du Plessis departs from the field for any reason.
As we’ve seen in the past, this results in a much weaker scrum.
