HistoryCanada
has been playing Test rugby since 1932, when the team made their debut
against Japan, and, despite being classified as a "tier two nation" by
the IRB, they have achieved some memorable results in the past.
The Cannucks, as they are known, famously beat Wales 26-24 on November 10, 1993 at Cardiff Arms
Park, beat France 18-16 in 1994 at Twin Elms Rugby Park in
Ontario, battled to a 27-27 draw against Ireland in 2000 in Ontario and chalked up a 26-23 win against
Scotland in Vancouver in 2002.
Canada
have also played in every single Rugby World Cup since the competition
started in 1987, even though the sport isn't nearly as popular as
Canadian Football or Ice Hockey.
The country has only 9032
registered, senior male players and they are scattered all over the
vast nation, where weather conditions often rule out the possibility of
playing rugby.
The national team competes in the Churchill Cup annually, along
with the second teams of several "tier one" nations, but
innavailability of their top players, due to club commitments in
Europe, means that they often struggle.
The country has provided top class players such as Dan Baugh, Rod Snow, Mike James, Colin Yukes,
Dave Lougheed and Jamie Cudmore to teams in England, Wales and France.
Canada
is currently ranked fourteenth in the world and achieved their best
result at the World Cup in 1991, where they reached the quarter-finals.
