Cape Town - Springbok skipper John Smit has congratulated All Blacks captain Richie McCaw on playing his 100th Test for New Zealand on Saturday.

McCaw, who became the first All Black to play a century of Tests for his country, reached the milestone in the All Blacks' 37-17 defeat of France at Eden Park in Auckland.

Smit, who has 109 Test caps to his name, but lost his 100th Test against the All Blacks in Soweto last year, tweeted: Congrats to Richie McCaw tonight for his 100th cap, great work!

what a man, what a player, what a team so together , so united so focused

      OZNOB - 2011-09-24 22:33

what team about to face oblivion as the biggest choking side ever

I said it before!!! this isn't the WC for the ABs to win, it's the WC for the ABs to lose!!! Everything is set up for them!! It is at home, France put in their pool so they don't meet them in the quarters or semis!! If they win it , it will be well deserved as they will have to beat the Boks or the Aussies to get to the final!! If they fail, there will be a lot of Kiwis going "Bungie jumping without the cord" I'm afraid!!!!!!!!

You are quite right Clark, what a man of John to wish his counter part. No wonder the Boks are so united and focused.

Well done Richie and well done J.Smit, players from opposing teams that congratulate another team or player show pure class, it's just unfortunate that some fans act undignified. Back in the day the players used to share a beer.

      Bren Vander - 2011-09-24 23:32

No, they had their own beers... But they did share their company while drinking them ;-)

      Dr Phil - 2011-09-25 00:15

But then again, I doubt Mark Andrews and Richard Lowe shared a beer after the game

That would be Richard "eye gouger" Loe. You have to wonder whether senior legends like Frik du Preez and Colin Meads phone each other on occasion. Perhaps Frik will drop in for a Steinlager at Colin's farm during RWC 2011. Come to think of it, after Nelson Mandela, Frik du Preez, is the man this Karoo boytjie would most love to meet. I think I would die and go to heaven. :)

Respect Richie McCaw!! Probably the greatest rugby player of all time - and a gentleman off the field to boot! .. but then again, what do I know,, I'm only 47 years old

      AMS-Dammer - 2011-09-25 08:14

If he was so great, I did not see his name on the ESPN 's World Rugby Team..... as presented by Austin Healy and Zinzan Brooke. John Smit and Os Durant's names were there...

  • Maori - 2011-09-25 19:59

    Well done Sir Richie!!
