London - Queen Elizabeth II has sent her congratulations to the New Zealand rugby team after they won the 2011 World Cup on Sunday, beating France 8-7 in the final Auckland.

"The Queen congratulates New Zealand on their victory in the Rugby World Cup final and sends her warm wishes to the team for their excellent performances," said a spokesman for her Buckingham Palace office in London.
Queen Elizabeth is currently touring Australia, a country where, as with both Britain and New Zealand, she is the head of state.
