Hirotoki Onozawa is an elusive, speedy winger, who is known for his jinking runs, and is the main attacking threat in Japan’s backline.

Onozawa is one of the most experienced players in the relatively inexperienced Japanese team that has an average amount of caps of just over 13 per player.

The winger is the highest capped player in the team and started the World Cup with 64 caps, 13 more than the second experienced player Hitoshi Ono and 20 more than flanker and team captain Takashi Kikutani.

The 33-year-old has scored a total of 210 points in his 57 starts and seven substitute appearances for Japan, all of which came from his mammoth haul of 42 Test rugby tries.

Onozawa currently plies his trade in the Japanese Top League with Suntory Sungoliath and his one of the best players in the side.

His importance to the team was rewarded in 2008 when he won the Most Valued Player awards for the Top League and the Microsoft Cup.

One of Onozawa’s most memorable tries was scored against Scotland at the 2003 World Cup, where he beat several Scottish tacklers on his way to the try-line.

The diminutive winger is currently taking part in his third World Cup, having played in the 2003 and 2007 tournaments.
Onozawa’s wealth of experience and incredible strike threat will be invaluable for Japan at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
