No Bok 'B-team' for Namibia

Cape Town - It is unlikely that Bok coach Peter de Villiers will pick a so-called "B-team" for their clash against minnows Namibia in Auckland on Thursday.

De Villiers told the Rapport newspaper that he views every match as a "final" and doubts whether he would use the clash as an opportunity to give every member of his 30-man squad a chance to play in the World Cup.

"I'm not sure, but I don't think so," said De Villiers.

This might come as a surprise given that the Namibians would probably lose to most of the South African provincial teams, and with two potentially gruelling knockout games looming, some would argue that the Boks could do with a rest.

After a much anticipated physical onslaught from Samoa in their last pool game, the Boks are likely to face Austalia and New Zealand in back-to-back weeks in the quarter-finals and semi-finals should they progress.

But the coach says they should rather use the match as an opportunity to help key players get match fit, as they haven't played together an awful lot recently.

"The team only had two weeks together before the World Cup tournament and there were injuries. I think we should do the right thing and approach every game like a final.

"Every chance should be used to get the players sharp and to let the combinations settle," said De Villiers.
