NZ still RWC 'favourites'

2011-08-31 12:02

Sydney - Former Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones says Australia's win over New Zealand last weekend was its best performance in a decade but believes the All Blacks must still be favourites to win the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Farr-Jones, who led Australia to victory at the 1991 World Cup, said on Wednesday the All Blacks' 25-20 Tri-Nations loss to the Wallabies would galvanise them ahead of the main event.

He said "the All Blacks probably had the loss they had to have. I still think they start as clear favourites to win and they will have that steely determination and in a way, their nation deserves it. They are a wonderful rugby nation."

Farr-Jones said Australia scrumhalf Will Genia and New Zealand flyhalf Dan Carter would be the key players of the tournament.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-08-31 12:29

@Lloyd - 1)Well coached & well drilled teams c*ck up regularly - 2) poorly coached teams perform miracles 3) teams that AREN'T coached at all (England in the last WC after the players ditched the coach and rowed the boat themselves from the pool stages) often do ok as well. The moral of the story - coaches don't always determine the outcome (unless they make silly replacements...) Lievremont, Deans, Johnson, TED, P Divvy, Kidney, Gatland and co have all experienced highs and SERIOUS lows - but it's ultimately the players under them who have taken all the glory for the highs - but have struggled to take the rap for the LOWS. IMHO- It's a 50/50 profit sharing deal - end of. PS: GO P DIVVY!!!!!! It's just funny that a lot of things P Divvy has said in the past (AB's cheating, SBW being a roadshow etc), are ALL being repeated by journalists the world over, and no-one is laughing at them......

      Tools1 - 2011-08-31 12:57

Agent I wish it were as easy as posting or wishing a person..... but to Frans. The French are good people....now if Libia had a rugby team he could boggeroff to Tripoli.

      Green Oaks - 2011-08-31 13:49

And so they should be. They have been for all the World Cups, yet could only win one. I think all the New Zealanders thought that Sonny Bill will be their hero this World Cup, but it seems he could turn out to be the reason they won't win it, because of all the media hype around where he is going to play next year. Not something you want to disrupt your squad

      roboman1 - 2011-08-31 13:59

It will be nice when Snorr makes Nick Farr Jones eat his words, when the Bokke win and Brussouw is name man of the tournament! And Morne Steyn has the most points of the tournament, that will make my week

      Jackool - 2011-08-31 21:05

If Snorre somehow takes the bokke to the final, will the bashers give him any credit for it?

      Mickey Fin - 2011-08-31 23:14

@SAFFA-CAT And don't stop there! The same journalists the world over, say Springboks are arrogant and dirty players! So what? Those same journalists all laugh at P Div! So what? Let the results speak for themselves. Unfortunately, P Div's results look a bit crap over the past 2 years or so, but again, so what! Roll on the World Cup and let the games begin!

      TheWasp - 2011-08-31 12:23

The Frogs have made it a habit to shatter the dreams of New Zealand, there is no doubt that stats wise and consistency they are the best side unquestioned, but they just can't win when it counts.... :( Much like a cricket team I know.....

      jk - 2011-08-31 13:46

maybe, but atch out in 2011...

      Mr Be Hind - 2011-08-31 15:29

agreed. They are favourites to choke

  • Chief Kok - 2011-08-31 12:32

We've never been 'not the RWC favourites'.

      Joe_Public - 2011-08-31 12:41

Guess that will make you 'not the RWC winners' AGAIN

      Tools1 - 2011-08-31 12:41

True, you have also never been real World Cup champions and I say YOU presuming you are a true NZder and not another wanabe with a Maori tatoo on his arm.

      Mike@CapeT - 2011-08-31 12:50

      BLOODY AGENT - 2011-08-31 12:56

Kokkie ,evey World cup you are the favourites, and it never stopped them from choking,,24 years and dreaming of a second world cup crown,,,,,,,eish must be sad to be such a loser,,,choker

      Barry Edwards - 2011-08-31 12:57

You have never not been the RWC chokers either

      TheWasp - 2011-08-31 13:00

Chief Cock...and I will say it again...you are just another loser Kiwi supporter Goffel from the Cape who hasn't let go..and who hasn't moved on....Bah :( Such a twat!

      Wormtongue - 2011-08-31 15:40

Chokkie, how do you define "we"? To get bragging rights to that Ferrari, you actually have to own it. Get you NZ passport and we will take you seriously. Your perceived enemy has increasingly been on life support since 1994. Not too long from now the real enemy will rise to the top and you will likely lose the crappy car you actually drive. Then the absurdity of your Bok backstabber act in 2011 will finally dawn on you. Massive lack of insight.

      Christy - 2011-08-31 17:09

@Chief Kok: I assume you're a South African, right? If so, why do you support the All Blacks? Do you know what patriotism means? What do you do when that beautiful national anthem of yours is sung? Don't you for a minute there feel like a traitor? I am just asking my friend. "Enquiring minds want to know."

      Tamzin M - 2011-08-31 17:45

@Christy. . . just becoz u are from one country it doesnt mean u have to support that team, each to their own. . . as for your beautiful national anthem. . .doesnt sound so beautiful wen they stuff the words up does it?

      Wormtongue - 2011-08-31 22:21

Yes "Tamzin": "to each their OWN". How come you bunch of backstabber palookas all use "becoz" and "coz". Same person backstabbing under a variety of pseudonyms, or did you all have the same substandard English teacher?

  • Anneleen - 2011-08-31 12:54

...and the Bokke still have the RWC Trophy...bring it home again...go Bokke!!!

      Jim - 2011-08-31 15:17

      GraemeBB - 2011-08-31 18:08

  • Kapa O Pango - 2011-08-31 13:01

      Tools1 - 2011-08-31 13:12

"Chuby Or not chuby"... fat is the question...

  • RonJeremy - 2011-08-31 13:06

I disagree with those two players. I think Div's blue-eyed boy Earl Rose will be the player of the RWC tournament. And if he isn't, then Mr Rose will probably phone Div again to cry about it.

      RonJeremy - 2011-08-31 13:10

And don't come with this rubbish about Earl not being good enough to be selected in the Bok squad. I'm sure Div has a plan to get him there incognito

      Bulldozer - 2011-08-31 13:20

Ron, what are you donig here? You came to early.

      jk - 2011-08-31 13:47
